Black Gen Z are +3x more likely to be at the forefront of human rights fights.
While all of Gen Z notes the impact of the social justice movement, the way it’s spoken about from Black Gen Z vs. non-Black peers is clearly different.
BLACK GEN Z
Deeply influenced by contemporary societal issues, such as racial injustice and the global pandemic, which have shaped their worldview and activism.
Non-BLACK GEN Z
Acknowledges the impact of these issues but may discuss them in the context of general generational experiences rather than personal or community-specific impacts.
I think that all of the protests that happened after George Floyd died were of great significance to our generation. We are not willing to put up with anything anymore. We're tired, just like the people before us and the people before them. We are absolutely exhausted…and the economy is a wreck. And we can't even do anything about it. Yeah, we're all tired."
I would say a defining cultural moment of my generation is probably when the Black Lives Matter movement was happening. They wanted everybody to stand up for the Black lives and the people that have been impacted by that. I just feel like our generation, we just had to stand up for who we believe in."
