OVER 500 HOURS, 748 VOICES: THE LARGEST INTERVIEW EVER DONE BY AI, IN 7 DAYS.

What is Black Shift? An insights driven exploration into the untold experiences of Black Gen Z in America. Growing up in a highly connected world with information readily available at their fingertips, this generation is unique in countless ways.
Embracing their digital native status, we conducted over 500 hours of in-depth interviews with 748 young people in the U.S. over one week, utilizing a personalized AI experience for each participant. This approach allowed us to illuminate Black Gen Z's lived experiences. With this new level of understanding, we can uncover innovative ways to empower and advocate for Black Gen Z.
Our Work Will Move the Culture Forward
Black Gen Z is nearly twice as likely to trust the media compared to their non-Black peers, highlighting the significance of our work. Despite facing historical trauma, racism, and systemic obstacles, Black Americans have demonstrated remarkable resilience. Our research shows that while trauma may persist, it does not diminish the limitless aspirations of Black youth.

What we did
Before we set out to do our own study, we needed to first understand what information already existed around this generation. We conducted an audit into publicly available reports & databases, along with a round of social listening to develop our own research.
Partner: First & First Consulting
We then programmed an AI moderator that would go on to have 45 minute long in-depth conversations with 748 young people across the US in the course of a week. The respondents interacted with the AI moderator verbally, and each following question was then catered to their unique responses to make for the first ever in-depth qualitative research of its kind done at scale.
